Ivrea Orange Merry War

Town of Ivrea, Italy has a unique tradition of commemorating the battles of the past. They were pelted each other with oranges, as a symbol of struggle for freedom from the tyranny of the ruling in the last 12 centuries.

Hundreds of people flooded the city on the weekend by wearing medieval costumes and fight each other throwing oranges.


"Our Carnival is a family tradition, it is the tradition of our parents and become something close to our hearts. To the people of Ivrea, it's a historic moment," said a city resident Angelo

Carnival tells the legend that tells about the events of the 12th century, where the daughter of a butcher refused an offer from an evil king. Princess is fighting a war and cut off the head of the king that led to the freedom of the city of Ivrea free from the tyranny of the system.
