Biography of David Danskin, the Founder of Arsenal FC

David Danskin (9 January 1863 - August 4, 1948) is a Mechanical Engineer from Scotland and footballer. He was a founding member of Dial Square FC Major, later renamed Royal Arsenal, the team is now known as Arsenal.

He played as an amateur for Kirkcaldy Wanderers, and among them there is also Jack McBean and Peter Connolly, the two players will then be joined by Danskin at the Royal Arsenal. In 1885 Danskin moved to London to look for a better job, and got a job in the workshop Dial Square, Royal Arsenal, Woolwich. There he met some football fans, including Jack Humble and former Nottingham Forest players, Fred Beardsley and Morris Bates. Together with Humble, Danskin compelled to set up a football club workers by establishing Dial Square FC.

Danskin held the first match between fellow enthusiasts and announced the establishment of the club by the name of Dial Square, and served as captain of the team in their first game against Eastern Wanderers on December 11, 1886; Dial Square won 6-0. Danskin continued to play for the Royal Arsenal, the club changed its name soon after, during the next two years. But after an injury that occurred in a match against Clapton in January 1889, Danskin decided to relax and just play rock after that.

Arsenal turn to a professional football club in 1891, and although Danskin advanced for the selection committee of the club in 1892, he was not elected. He finally ended its official relationship with Arsenal and then focus with new teams from the area, the Royal Ordnance Factory, which was founded in 1896. He is also authorized as a referee in a local competition. But apparently he still loves Arsenal because he frequently attended their matches, and his son Billy used to sell programs at their Manor Ground as a child.

He then started his own business with Bicycle Manufacturing Company founded in Plumstead, before moving to Coventry in 1907 to work at the Standard Motor Company. In later life he was plagued by health problems, caused by a leg injury in football, and took early retirement. Nevertheless, he was a founding member of Arsenal want to live longer to see the club succeed.

In the 1930's, he is said to have cheered diranjangnya when Arsenal won the FA Cup in 1936, after many years of suffering from health problems, Danskin died at a hospital in Warwick in 1948, at the age of 85. In 2007, to commemorate his role in the history of the club, Arsenal Scotland Supporters Club presented a plaque blue for Danskin, placed near his birthplace in Burntisland.
