Chameleon Mini Discovered in Madagascar

Chameleon animal known for its ability to blend with the surrounding environment. But chameleons found in Madagascar has a better ability to camouflage as a mini size.

Scientists from the United States (U.S.), Ted Townsend managed to find a chameleon mini measuring only 3 cm. Chameleons are not even bigger than flies that are normal sized chameleon prey.


The new species is named Brookesia Micra was found on a small island in the entrance region of Madagascar. Chameleon Mini is even listed as the world's smallest reptile.

Scientists from San Diego State University has been carrying out genetic tests on the new species.

"Their size suggests that chameleons have evolved in Madagascar, from the small size and not as flashy as their ancestors, not like a chameleon that is larger and more colorful as we know so far," said Ted Townsend as reported by Daily Mail , Wednesday (15/02/2012).

He added, the new species found only in a small island covering an area of ​​only a few square miles of it. In addition, it is believed that chameleons are very sensitive mini with the destruction of their habitat, so it should really be kept.
